Motsoaledi Butcher (Photos are NOT for the weak)

,

This is the local butcher in Motsoaledi, he moved around the settlement to sell meat to the residents.

Using a pantomime routine, I asked the butcher where the rest of the cow was? He said no, he only has the head. In the years we have been working in the settlements, we have only seen heads carved by the butcher, so we assume that's the part that the stores cast off.

The meat is carved on a stump. There is a small Weber-type grill that he cooks the meat on to sell to the residents, the aroma is wonderful. The butcher piles the meat from the "head" on the ground, lots of flies are buzzing around and no water to rinse but this is a great source of protein for people.
