The Streets of Motsoaledi

Motsoaledi is an informal settlement located just outside the walls of the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, and very near the colorful cooling towers in Soweto; was named after freedom fighter Elias Motsoaledi. Elias was one of the eight men sentenced to life imprisonment at the Rivonia Trial at Robbin Island at the same time as Nelson Mandela. Motsoaledi is just off the highway and used as a local tourist attraction on Soweto tours.

The streets are straight and the housing is set up in an organized matter---so well in fact, that the government is considering building low income housing for the people using the same grid as they currently live.
There are fences around each property; the settlement is at capacity and every house is filled.
